Abhishek, an international student from India, talks about his experience studying MSc Robotics at Sheffield.

Before joining my Master's program at Sheffield, I was an Associate Design Engineer - Embedded Hardware in Bangalore, India. My passion for robotics always pushes me to learn more. I spent my free time attending courses and seminars, preparing myself for the challenges and opportunities in my Master's studies.

My journey as an international student at the º£½ÇÉçÇø of Sheffield has been exciting! After arriving at Sheffield, I felt very welcomed, and it didn't take me long to get adjusted to the social life. I feel so lucky that I have come across a lot of friendly students and staff here at the º£½ÇÉçÇø of Sheffield.

As a Master's student at the º£½ÇÉçÇø of Sheffield, I get the opportunity to refine my research and engineering skills to a professional level. However, the best parts of the course are when I work on module-specific projects. I personally learn best when I apply my knowledge. The hands-on approach of the course allows me to find out blind spots in my understanding of a concept while also enhancing my ability to innovate further.

One of the highlights of my studies was the team project for the 'Mechatronics for Robotics' module. We were tasked with designing a robot to perform a set of tasks (which gained us points) in an arena while avoiding obstacles to prevent penalties. Designing this robot required considerations from several backgrounds, such as: mechanical design, electronics, programming algorithms, etc. It was a fun and exciting collaborative process. We performed really well during the demonstration day, which was the result of our team's efforts.

If you're considering pursuing a Master's course at Sheffield, my biggest piece of advice is: don't be afraid to ask questions even when you have the simplest doubts in your mind. The staff at the university are some of the friendliest people on campus and will always be happy to clear your doubts. Engaging with lecturers and peers will not only increase your know-how but also make learning more enjoyable.
